At the end of November, DPAG bought a 360 camera suitable for making 360° videos that can be added to Google Maps StreetView.
Once the weather cleared up a bit after that really long grey period at the end of November, filming, processing and uploading started and we now have uploaded 22kms worth of map footage to Streetview that added areas in Dumfries that were not already covered. As I write, the footage has been viewed 5644 times, over 4000 of those views are on the High Street.
The principal goal was to get the High Street on Streetview and this was the first piece to go online. After that, I expanded out to the Whitesands and Dock Park, all the central river paths and footbridges, Maidenbower and the Maxwellton and Caledonian paths from DGRI end to Quarry Road in Locharbriggs. The main street through Summer Park is also now online.
There are still a few missing sections to film and they’ll be added soon, now the better weather is here. The High Street will probably be updated on a regular schedule (and in better weather!).
Along the way I encountered Mostly Ghostly doing a guided tour on the Greensands and a tidal bore fizzling out as it approached the cricket pitches by Castle Dykes.
